“It’s aggressive. We need to treat it aggressively and I need you to be aggressive with it.” Those were the words my doctor shared with me the day I found out I had breast cancer. His words gave me the fight I needed. Game face on. Will to live activated. September 15th was the date, coincidently, or not, this was the same day my dad was in an accident that ultimately took his life, 14 years prior. A date I already had etched in my mind – now reborn.
I’ll never forget the conversation with my mom shortly after learning the news. She said, “You know who God uses for these storms, Kelly? His strongest soldiers. cause they can weather the battle.” As the saying goes, we don’t know how strong we are until being strong is our only choice. Halloween day, I was introduced to the devil himself. Kinda fitting don’t you think? This chemo sure lives us to it’s name.
May 22, my wedding anniversary, I had surgery to get Cruella “off my chest.” Yes I named my tumor. Why Cruella you ask? As an avid dog lover and rescuer, Cruella is the most evil villain ever. Period. God told me I would get through this and he would be by mind side the entire time. but he needed me to walk this path in order to help others. My only desire is to be an encouragement to others. Your story doesn’t end here. September 15th has come and gone….again. And that is my victory.
